Gov’t to Speed up Digital Infrastructure Development to Support MSMEs in Papua

The Government continued to take measures to improve MSMEs’ competitiveness, including MSMEs and micro enterprises (UMi) throughout the land of Papua that has enormous potential.

The statement was made by Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate at the peak event of the “Proud of Indonesian Products” National Movement (Gernas BBI) Binar Digital Papua on Wednesday (08/24). The event was held in a hybrid format, which the on-site event was located at Cendrawasih sport center in Jayapura city, Papua province.

Through the event, the Minister expressed his hope that products of MSMEs and micro enterprises in Papua can penetrate the market, especially in fashion, food and beverages, and handicraft sectors.

Moreover, in order to support the digital and business ecosystem, Johnny added, the Government through Ministry of Communications and Informatics continued to take measures to develop digital infrastructure in all over Indonesia including Papua.

According to the Minister, the Government has deployed 1,591 units of base transceiver stations (BTS) in 2021, while this year 406 BTS will be deployed.

“We have also prepared and provided internet access for 1,702 sites of public services including education facilities, regional governments, health facilities, other government services in Papua and West Papua provinces,” Johnny said.

In addition, the Minister said that the Government will continue to carry out events that focus on supporting MSMEs and micro enterprises.

Johnny said that this year the Ministry will assist 110 MSMEs and micro enterprises as well as 200 entrepreneurs in tourism and creative economy sectors in Papua and West Papua provinces through seminar and workshop as well as English training.

Furthermore, Johnny expressed his optimism that MSMEs and micro enterprises throughout Indonesia including the land of Papua will level up in this digital age. (PR of Ministry of Communications and Informatics/UN) (AP/MUR)
