President Jokowi Orders Careful Policy Making After PPKM Policy Revocation
Following the revocation of the public activity restrictions (PPKM) policy, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ordered his administration to remain vigilant and careful in making policies to maintain the stability of the Indonesian economy during the transition.
“After we withdrew the PPKM policy at the end of 2022, during the transition, we must still remain vigilant and careful in making policy decisions, especially those of the economy as we are currently in a very good position,” the President said at the 2023 National Coordination Meeting for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (PCPEN), at the AA Maramis Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday (01/26).
The President stated that amid efforts to deal with the pandemic in 2022, Indonesia was able to maintain national economic growth.
“The 2022 Q3 is at 5.72 [percent] year-on-year, as previously said by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Mr. Airlangga, at 5.3 [percent], if we can achieve it, this will be a very good achievement,” he said.
On the occasion, the President also expressed his appreciation to all parties who worked together for three years to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and recover the economy from the central to the village levels.
“I would like to thank all of you and all ranks from the central level to the village level, who have worked hard for three years in dealing with the pandemic and recovering our economy. It was a very tough challenge. We faced a very, very difficult problem at that time. There was no standard, no guideline, because all of us did not have experience in dealing with this pandemic,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (FI/LW)
