Gov’t Allows League 1 to Resume behind Closed Doors

Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali Tuesday (12/06) said that the Government has allowed the Indonesian League 1 to resume after being delayed following the Kanjuruhan tragedy in East Java province.

On that occasion, the Minister went on to say that the competition will be held behind closed doors in Central Java province and the Special Region of Yogyakarta province by using bubble system.

Moreover, Zainudin said that the Government has decided to resume the Indonesian League 1 considering that the Indonesian U-20 National Football Team needed proper preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

“The competition is needed for the National Team given that we will compete at the U-20 World Cup as a host as well as other competitions that also need the National Team’s readiness,” he added.

According to Zainudin, the National Team is expected to keep enhancing its performance.

“After joining the TC [Training Center) overseas, [the players] have to play for their respective teams. If there is no competition, their performance will decline,” he said.

Furthermore, Zainudin also expressed his hope that the transformation will improve Indonesian football including football management and football ecosystem. (MAY/AIT/ST) (AP/MUR)
