President Jokowi Invites ICMI to Contribute in Indonesia’s Transformation
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (01/29) invited members of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) to contribute in professional manner according to their respective skills.
“Let us contribute our ideas and thoughts. Not only being a role model for Islam as blessing for the universe (rahmatan lil ‘alamin), but also professional contributions according to their respective expertise to ensure the progress of Advanced Indonesia,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Inauguration of the ICMI Central Executive Council virtually from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.
President Jokowi also expressed belief that the ICMI can innovate amid the today’s era of rapid changes and challenges.
“We, including the ICMI, will face increasingly though challenges in the future. Nevertheless, I believe that the ICMI as a forum for scholars will always be able to find new ways and strategies amid the today’s era of rapid changes and challenges,” he said.
In line with event’s theme of “Transformation of the ICMI Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045”, the President continued, the Government is also working hard to realize transformation in various fields, including the new national capital city (IKN) development in East Kalimantan.
“The IKN program and several major transformations that are currently taking place require the support of all parties. I really hope the ICMI’s contribution in the transformation of Indonesia to create the advanced Indonesia that we aspire to,” he remarked.
In the meantime, the elected Chairperson of ICMI for the 2021-2026 Arif Satria stated that the ICMI works on the basis of Islam, Indonesia, and scholarly manner. He also added that Indonesia is blessed with diversity, ranging from ethnicity, tradition, to religion and the ICMI is determined to play a role in maintaining national unity amid the diversity.
“The ICMI is determined to play a role in fostering a unitary state in the form of a republic based on Pancasila. The intellectual dimension demands that ICMI make its members become person with insight (ulul albab) who continue to balance between remembrance of God and thinking for the benefit of all,” Arif added.
