President Jokowi Visits Grasberg Mine

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi visited Grasberg mine, Mimika regency, Papua, Thursday (09/01).

In Grasberg, the President and Ibu Iriana, accompanied by President Director of copper and gold mining company PT Freeport Indonesia Tony Wenas, visited the Bunaken Museum to explore the history of the company’s mining activities.

Tony explained that Grasberg was the second mine after Ertsberg.

“We don’t have any mining activities in Ertsberg and Grasberg now. It’s on reclamation and we are maintaining the stability of the mountain slopes,” Tony said.

The President and Ibu Iriana continued their journey to underground mining after making two hour visit at Grasberg. (Press, Media, and Information Bureau of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (YC/RI)
